Personal Statement

I am a hard working and dynamic individual who would like to gain experience and pursue a career within the media, communication and creative industries. I have experience with journalism, radio, music industries and digital communications. I am a bright person who always approaches work with a positive attitude. I am a fast learner, with creativity and flair. 


Media Work Experience 

  • Poetic Roar, Founder, October 2012 - May 2013. This was a freelance audio production company I set up in order to promote the local creative arts communities in Birmingham/West Midlands area. During this time I create three podcasts for The Old Joint Stock Theatre, Acting Out (an LGTB drama group) and Halesowen College. This role required me to develop on my audio production skills, my editing skills, interviewing various different people and working towards a client brief. I also set up a Twitter account for this project, and worked with a local graphic designer. 

  • Active Radio, Breakfast Producer, January 2013. Active Radio was a two week long project ran by local radio students. I produced the breakfast show and was in charge of managing two presenters, creating show content, engaging in regular meetings and taking control of the Active Radio twitter account whilst on air. This opportunity gave me the experience to manage presenters and create content in a live situation.

  •  Kerrang! Radio, Roadie, July 2011 - May 2013. This was a freelance position at Kerrang! My job varied each shift and ranged from office work, brand promotion, and helping out at music events. This job required me to have a lot of confidence, enthusiasm and strong team work skills. It also gave me an insight into how a commercial radio station is run.

  • Scratch Radio, Present/Producer, May 2011 - February 2012. I presented and produced a weekly pop-punk genre show on Scratch. I was required to work under a live setting, produce show content, scripts and research ideas. I was also required to comply and adapt to Scratch Radios branding identity. This job improved my confidence and gave me the opportunity to work the radio technical board. 

  • Spaghetti Junction Student Magazine, News and Features Editor, September 2010 - February 2012. I began my experience at Spaghetti Junction as a journalist. I wrote various different articles including new pieces, current affairs, interviews and entertainment reviews. I attended various different meetings and due to my enthusiasm and commitment, I eventually was elected as News and Features Editor. This required me to work alongside the university student union rep, proofread and edit articles, and also promote and represent the brand at various university events. I was also a part of running the brands social media platforms.

  • Closer Magazine, Work Experience, January 2011. During my week placement at Closer Magazine, I worked worked predominantly with the beauty and fashion department. I assisted during photoshoots, liasised with various different PR companies, transcribed interviews and researched article content. This was a very beneficial placement as I was able to gain experience and an insight into the consumer magazine industry. 

  • The National Student, Journalist, October 2010 - November 2010. I wrote various online article for The National Student that included entertainment reviews, interviews and advice pieces. They can all be found here. This role required me to liaises with interviewees through email and phone calls and also communicate regularly with the websites editor. This gave me the opportunity to display and improve my written work. This role strengthened my article research skills and my proofreading skills.

Pedmore Technology College and Community School, 2001 - 2007. 8 GCSE qualifications including a A - C grades in Maths, English and English Literature.
